Mexico - San Cristóbal de las Casas
San Cristóbal de las Casas liegt im Hochland, der Sierra Madre de
Chiapas, im Bundesstaat Chiapas in ca. 2100 m Höhe. Es ist wohl das ärmste
Bundesland Mexikos. Das Gebiet um San Cristóbal wird hauptsächlich
von Mayas bewohnt. Unweit von San Cristóbal findet man das Indiodorf
Chamula, sehenswert, aber besonders beim Fotografieren ist Vorsicht geboten.
1994 geriet San Cristóbal de las Casas in die Schlagzeilen, als die
Stadt mehrere Tage von den Zapatisten besetzt wurde, bis die mexikanische
Armee den Aufstand niederschlug.
